There are 20 Public Sector banks in India. Initially all of these banks conduct their own recruitment process with separate notifications and application process. This was a very though process for most applicant as candidates have to spend separate fees for each bank. In 2011 an independent HR institute IBPS, Indian Banking Personnel Selection board was decided to given the charge for conducting a Common Written Exam for all Public Sector banks except State Bank of India.
